Water
The City operates two elevated
water towers as part its water
distribution system. A
150,000-gallon tower built in
1962 is located at the
intersection of 10th
Street and Orleans Avenue. In
2003, a 500,000-gallon elevated
tank was constructed at the
intersection of 15th
Street and Clark Avenue. A
150,000-gallon ground storage
reservoir is located just east
of the Public Works shop. Three
Public Works employees are
certified by the South Dakota
Department of Water and Natural
Resources as Water Distribution
System Operators. |

|
Waste Water
The City utilizes a lagoon
system for wastewater
treatment. The lagoons are
located southwest of the City.
In 2001, improvements were made
to increase the capacity of the
lagoons with the construction of
an additional pond and
replacement of the diffusers in
the aeration pond. The
wastewater collection system
utilizes six lift stations to
move wastewater to the gravity
flow sewer mains and to the
lagoons for treatment. Three
Public Works employees are
certified by the South Dakota
Department of Water and Natural
Resources as Wastewater
Collection System Operators.

Snow
Removal |
 |
|
The City uses three
dump trucks equipped
with snowplows, two
sanders, front end
loader, and a motor
grader to remove
snow from the
streets. Buskerud
Construction is
under contract with
the City to remove
snow from the
downtown area.
Priority is given to
clear the emergency
snow routes in
town. |
 |
 |
 |
|
Perimeter streets
are a close second
on the priority list
to get plowed by our
Public Works crews.
These streets, in
general, would be:
Garfield, 15th
Street, Highway 77,
and Centennial.
When the emergency
routes are cleared,
along with the
perimeter streets,
the crews move
towards the other
areas of town.
All vehicles must be
removed from the
street in all other
areas within 24
hours after the
first plowing to
allow all areas to
be cleared curb to
